Ohio Funding Sources


A Kid Again

A Kid Again's mission is to foster hope, happiness and healing for families raising kids with life threatening illnesses. They provide year round fun filled adventures that allow children to feel like a kid again. Chapters in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Cleveland.

A Special Wish Foundation- Dayton Chapter

Grants the wish of a child or adolescent (birth through age 20) who has been diagnosed by a physician with a life-threatening disorder. Serving Mercer, Auglaize, Shelby, Darke, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Butler, Warren, Clinton, Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Highland, Adams, Scioto, and Pike counties. Acoustics for Autism

Offers a scholarship program to individuals with autism for assessments and treatments that may not otherwise be covered privately or by other third-party funding sources such as school districts, county programs, insurance, and/or other scholarship making entities. Main goal is to provide scholarship opportunities to children living within the autism spectrum to our Toledo Area Families.


Ahava

The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo (JFGT) offers a scholarship to cover an expense related to the care of the applicant with special needs, including therapy, equipment, and/or continuing education for parents of a child applicant.


Angel Flight East

Provide free air transportation to qualified patients and their families by arranging flights to distant medical facilities, delivering supplies to disaster areas, and reuniting families during desperate times. Provides transportation in the Northeastern region of the United States for distances up to 1,000 miles. The minimum distance AFE travels is 100 miles.


Avenues for Autism

Suzanne Tyner Autism Scholarship provides financial assistance to offset costs for families seeking interventions, assessments, education, and equipment not covered by insurance or traditional grants.


Bert's Big Adventure

Provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children ages 5-12 diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness or is physically challenged.The child/family must live in the radio listening area of The Bert Show.


Beyond Words Foundation

Students living in Cuyahoga, Summit or Medina Counties with an autism diagnosis and under the age of 22. Scholarships are awarded based on need for therapies and services that are recreational in nature.

Building Blocks for Kids

BB4K's mission is to improve the quality of life for children in Greater Cincinnati with health-related needs that are unmet through traditional means by offering grants, referrals, and alternative resources. These are needs not being met due to lack of insurance, insurance coverage, government assistance, and/or family resources.


Butterfly Fund

Provides direct financial assistance to needy families of children and young adults with brain and spinal cord tumors for items not covered by other means.

Casey Cares Foundation

Helps children being treated for cancer, brain tumors, blood disorders, lymphoma , sarcoma, and cystic fibrosis.


Christopher's Promise

A grassroots initiative providing children with permanent physical disabilities free adaptive bicycles through partnerships and grant support.


Circle Tail

Provides Service Dogs for people with physical disabilities, Diabetes Alert Dogs, and Hearing Dogs at no cost.


Community Fund Ohio

Community Fund also offers three types grants to individuals who reside in Ohio and have a disability.


Deepwood Foundation

Provide special services, tools and items necessary for children and adults in Lake County to achieve their full potential.


Different Needz Foundation

Provide grants to individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and organizations that support them to provide medical equipment and/or services. Grant applications become available in January and grant awards announced in May.

Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo

Provides a one-time-per-calendar year $100 scholarship to benefit an individual with DS who is interested in attending a camp, recreational, therapeutic or educational activity of their choice.


Dream Factory

Largest all-volunteer driven children’s wish-granting organization that does not limit its mission to children who have life-threatening illness. The organization believes children with chronic illnesses and disorders also suffer from substantial emotional and physical pain. Parent must apply through local chapter.


Easterseals Central and Southeast Ohio

Provides financial assistance to people with disabilities who may not otherwise be able to afford summer camp.


GiGi's Playhouse

Changes lives through consistent delivery of free educational, therapeutic-based and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome of all ages through a replicable playhouse model.


Good Knights

Provides complete, comfortable, and safe beds to children in need in Lorain County, Ohio.


James R Nicholl Memorial Foundation

Grants for medical and surgical assistance to needy children and is paid directly to the health care provider. Must have been residents of Lorain County, OH, for at least two years. Contact Kimberly.L.Thomas@jpmorgan.com or 248-738-6169 for an application.


Jeremy Cares

Creating Moments of JOY for families going through a serious illness with their child.


Lifeline Pilots

FREE transportation for such medical needs as on-going medical treatments, diagnosis and follow-up care.

Make A Wish Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana

Make-A-Wish grants wish of children with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength & joy.


May We Help

Fulfill the needs for individually tailored assistive devices that are not being met commercially. Mini swaps available at their location in Cincinnati.


Mercy Medical Angels

Provide assistance with transportation to receive medical services in the air with commercial airline tickets and volunteer pilots, and on the ground with gas cards, bus and train tickets.

Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities

The Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities was founded in 1997 by a group of small business owners to provide financial assistance to children challenged physically, developmentally or cognitively. Currently accepting applications from residents in Ohio and Indiana.


Miracle Travel Works

Provides assistance for travel for the purpose of seeking urgent medical treatment for your child, and you reside within the Midwest states.


MJB Foundation

Supports children with mental and physical challenges primarily in the Central Ohio area. By sponsoring recreational and educational activities, donating physical goods and services, and making monetary contributions we hope to share Joy with these children.


New Perspective Foundation

Helps individuals who are currently hospitalized due to a spinal cord injury by assisting their family and friends with airfare, gasoline and lodging expenses so they can travel to support them in their time of need.

Parker's Purpose

Monetary assistance up to $1,000 paid directly to the family of a child that is under 18 years old and has a life altering illness or disability

Patient Airlift Services

Arranges volunteer medical flights in the greater Northeast region as far west as Ohio and as far south as Virginia.

Pierce's Crew

Monetary Assistance to offset the cost of therapy and programs to individuals with a diagnosed disability in Hancock, Wood, Allen, Putnam, Wyandot, Seneca, Sandusky and Henry Counties.


Pilot Dogs

A life-changing companion for people who are blind or visually impaired, and we provide dogs to eligible students at no cost.


Post Adoption Special Services Subsidy (PASSS)

This program is a federally supported program for post-adoptive families of children with special needs. PASSS provides up to $10K in funding per adopted child with special needs per year, to help cover the costs associated with specialized services, resources, and more.

Rec2Connect Foundation

Provides scholarship opportunities for individuals with special needs in Northeast Ohio to apply towards a variety of Recreation Therapy based services.


Richard D Greene Adoption Grant

Provides financial assistance to families who have adopted a child of any age who has Down syndrome. Applicants must be a resident of Ashland, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas or Wayne counties.


Sam Bish Foundation

Assisting families being treated for pediatric cancer at Nationwide Children's Hospital and within the state of Ohio.


Special Horseman Connection

Provides grants for equestrians with disabilities to provide Hippotherapy, riding lessons, camps, and competitive horse showing.

The Cooper Foundation

Assist children and young adults with disabilities get the help they need. The assistance may be funding for therapy, a summer camp, or devices/equipment to help with everyday living. We want to provide the "extra help" these individuals need to reach their full potential. Priority given to families in Cuyahoga, Lorain, and Medina counties.


The Littlest Heroes

Impact the lives of children with cancer and their families through social, emotional and financial services. Heroes Family Fund assists families struggling with fuel, groceries and other financial hardship. Adopt-A-Family Program helps families enjoy the holiday season through gifts, meals and other essential items.

The Mother Ship, Inc

Founded to provide social, emotional, and community supports to mothers of special needs children in the Central Ohio area.


Their Voice of Greater Cincinnati

Helping families affected by Cerebral Palsy receive much needed respite care, medical supplies, home modification, cleaning services and emotional support. Currently serving within Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties.


Wishes Can Happen

A child in Northeast Ohio between the ages of 3 through 21 who has been determined by a physician to have a life threatening illness is eligible for a wish.Covered illnesses include all cancers, many heart defects, cystic fibrosis, organ transplants, dialysis, Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy and many others.

W.orking A.nimals G.iving S.ervice 4 Kids

W.A.G.S. 4 Kids is dedicated to providing mobility and autism service dogs for children throughout northeast and central Ohio.

Zane's Foundation

Zane's Foundation has a quarterly grant cycle that assists children and adults with special needs in Northeast Ohio. Special Needs is used to describe a life-ling disability attributed to a developmental and/or intellectual impairment. These disabilities affect daily functioning in the following areas: capacity for independent living, economic self sufficiency, learning, mobility, social skills, receptive and expressive language, self care skills, and self-direction.

Created by the Complex Care Center at Cincinnati Children’s and supported by the Family Resource Center, can assist parents, caregivers and healthcare providers identify, evaluate and access necessary services and supports.
